Originally started over 40 years ago under the guidance of Late Ray Peter from the Cowichan tribe, he taught the brothers as well as Late Jim Dick and their children the songs and dances. A few years later after that group stopped Jim and his wife Dell along with their two daughters who now run it have kept the group going representing their home Songhees Nation.
The group has been going strong for a few years now and perform at many schools, festivals, parades, private events and all levels of government including the last two Royal Tours.
Everyone takes pride in the ability to share a little bit of their culture and represent their home Nation.
Catch the Lekwungen Traditional Dancers on July 3rd at Eventide’s Indigenous showcase.
